September 8th, the Marching Tar Heels took some sisters along with them for the pep band trip to ECU. We had a blast meeting with our Pirate sisTAUs of Iota Nu and enjoyed a very sweet treat! We enjoyed watching the game and spending time with another local chapter.
Rush week went super great! Due to Hurricane Florence, rush week up started on Wednesday, September 19th. We combined Cheerwine and Design with Game Night in Kenan Music building. We had a big group playing Cards against Humanity and other games. We had chocolate and vanilla cupcakes (shout out to Melanie!) with pink, orange, green, and purple icing to decorate with. Thursday we had service night after practice at Eddie Smith Field House where we helped KKPsi with tearing down the equipment. After that, we came together and Hannah gave a short spiel about what TBS does to make up for the interest meeting. Friday night was Movie Night which was held in the Cobb Movie room (10/10 recommend). We decided on watching Emperor’s New Groove, and had popcorn, candy gifted to us from ECU’s chapter, and INSOMNIA COOKIES (thanks to Janelle)!! Saturday, September 22nd was our first performance of the year. Shout out to our president, Laney, and KKPsi’s president, Nora, on their first time conducting as the 2018 MTH Drum Majors! It was also family weekend, high school band day, and first year marcher’s first college performance. Hectic and HOT would be the best words to describe Saturday. Saturday’s game was definitely the hottest game I’ve ever attended, simply because the sun was literally beating down on us the entire day. Many fans and band members were having heat strokes and were crowded out under the awning where the food vendors were. The heavy uniforms did not help with the situation, but Fuchs didn’t make the band wear the jackets in the stands, only to perform. I’m pretty sure everyone slept for at least 14 hours after the game. Sunday the 23rd was a much better day. We started it off bright and early with a brunch for the invited prospective members. The prospective members only had to attend 1 rush event due to the hurricane. We had a spread of some really good food including, hash-browns, cinnamon rolls, powdered donuts, eggs, sausage, bagels, muffins, toast, fruit, etc. AND a Keurig. We had 9 prospective members come out (1 had a job conflict). Hannah presented a slide show about TBS at brunch. We decided to send out 10 membership applications and we received 10 applications back! Yay! September 29th some sisters participated in a service event to help break down the Orange County LocalFest at Blackwood Farm Park in Hillsborough, NC. LocalFest is a diverse, family friendly festival that celebrates and promotes local food, music, economy, and the county’s heritage and culture. We helped put up tables, chairs, tents, garbage, helped guide vendor trucks out of the park, and altogether get things cleared and organized for a truck crew to come grab things the next day. Also, shout out to Claire from Kappa Kappa Psi for helping drive sisters over to the event and helping out. |
