Life can be pretty hectic, and the life of a college student is quite possibly the most hectic of all. But it is possible to find balance so life doesn't become completely unbearable. If you find this balance, can you please send me the recipe? Jk jk, college life isn't all bad. It's not even half bad. But all I can do is tell you about my college experiences up to this point. I big part of my college life is marching band, and even more recently my membership in TBS. In TBS I serve as active treasurer. Basically I handle all the financial happenings and interactions of the sorority and head fundraising projects. It's not overly complicated, but it can take up a good deal of my time, especially when I'm also a full-time student with a part-time job. Balancing all these roles can get pretty overwhelming but if there's one thing I've learned it's how to use my friends, peers, and sisters as support. Having an active and balanced college life isn't something one goes at alone. I'm so lucky to be surrounded by driven, intelligent, passionate sisters and peers. They help and support me from taking on any delegated projects, to just giving a warm hug on a day that seems almost never-ending. But as with anything in life, if you love doing it, it will never feel like work. I don't really mean that what I do everyday isn't work, but rather that the outcomes produced--a better organization, a better band, and a better self--are all things that make the hard work worth it. Plus it doesn't hurt when you're surrounded by your best friends. So, what more could I really ask for? Iota Lambda had a fantastic RUSH Week this Spring 2016 semester! We started the week with Cheerwine and Design on Tuesday. We painted canvases (with varying degrees of expertise) and sipped on some delicious Cheerwine. Here are a few of our masterpieces: The next day, we educated ourselves with a Healthy Relationships and Sexual Identity seminar from a few folks at the UNC Wellness Center. It was a great bonding and learning experience for the chapter as well as the potential new members; we played games, had competitions, and engaged in stimulating discussions. On Thursday, we did what we do best: serve the UNC bands! For this RUSH event we cleaned up chairs and stands after marching band rehearsal. On Friday, we continued our Zumba tradition with our lovely instructor/sister, Ariel. We all got a good workout and gained a few dance skills. Please observe our awesome moves here: Finally, we finished the week with a wonderful home-cooked dinner with the chapter. We ate delicious chicken, mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, brownies, and other amazing dishes. Thank you to the sisters for making great food, and thank you to the interested band members for joining us!
We are unbelievably excited for what the rest of the semester has in store as we welcome 3 new members into Iota Lambda! -Hanne Schrickx |
