The Fall semester became much busier than I intended when I decided to start on the journey to becoming a sister of Tau Beta Sigma. The Cheerwine and Design rush event tempted me with cupcakes and I ended up attending the rest of the events for the week, ending in the lovely dinner on Saturday that allowed me to get to know the other members and prospective members much better!
The eight weeks into Tau Beta Sigma proved to be a challenge. Not only did I have multiple tests to study for, but I had new friends to make as well. Getting to know my line sisters as individuals and getting to see their personalities come through along the way was definitely one of the most rewarding parts. Working together, we managed to pull together a service project and fundraiser project, and were much more successful than anticipated. Probate practices were a definite source of both challenge and bonding, as we relied heavily on one another for moral support and the positive result of the final product. Finally, the date of the probate arrived. I can’t say that I said everything perfectly (I accidentally called Mark sophisticated instead of selfless), but all went well by the end. The crowd was wonderfully supportive, filled with both TBΣ and KKΨ members that made the experience so much more enjoyable with their enthusiastic support! Now, officially being a sister in Tau Beta Sigma, I can look back on my journey and say with certainty that I am grateful to be where I am. -McKenna Gramzay SisTAUs,
October was service in music month and that was not lost upon the Iota Lambda chapter. The theme this year was similar to that of last year's, service in music across the generations. To fulfill this theme we went about doing four projects. For the youth age group we are planning a band to go and demonstrate at a local elementary school to encourage the youth to pick up an instrument later on and give band a try. Next for adolescent we and several members of the band wrote letters to a NC congressperson advocate music and the arts in k-12 schools. For adult/young adult we served the band members in several ways from a concert setup to stadium setup. Finally for the elderly group we helped cleanup after the veterans national creative arts festival. These events involved both old and new members of the chapter and helped us keep service in our sights for the month as well as the semester! MOTS, Mark |
