I feel like it’s pretty typical for people to say, “it’s been a long and hard journey.” Well, that’s because it is. My line sisters and I had to jump through all kinds of hoops to cross this semester: a service project, a fundraiser, and a few really tough tests! I was pretty nervous about the probate, too. These obstacles are meant to challenge us, change us, and incorporate us into the Sisterhood. You don’t understand what it really means until you cross. We wear letters, we hold up the “Sigma” hand sign in pictures, we sing the Sorority hymn together — these are privileges, only earned through the journey that every Sister completed in order to be initiated. As tough as the process is (and as much feelings I had while I was going through it), I realize now that the challenges are pivotal to the Sisterly bond. We all experienced this journey and its obstacles together, and we all have this in common. Honestly, the hardest part for me was the probate. I’m very shy and I’m not good at being loud. I tend to stay quiet so I won’t attract attention, yet for the probate, I had to be the center of attention — and I was so nervous. But in the end, I did okay. I started my reveal with a huge scream, which surprised everyone, including myself. I’m so glad Maranda was able to capture this moment: (I love everyone’s faces!) I’m so proud of the person I’ve become after this journey. The friendships I’ve made and will keep developing through the years will be truly lifelong. My journey into TBS has ended, but my journey as a Sister has just begun! MOTS
