I joined TBS last semester along with Amy, Ariel, and Mark, and I’m so glad I did. I transferred to UNC knowing just one grad student, so I knew it would be crucial for me to get involved as quickly as possible. All the members of TBS were so approachable and welcomed the four of us into the sisterhood with pride and confidence that we would bring greatness to the chapter—and if I may say so myself, we did! Although we’ve only officially been sisters for five months, we have accomplished so much together, including helping a troop of girl scouts earn their music badges and successfully auctioning ourselves off at the Sister-Mister Auction. We have so much to look forward to and I cannot wait to see what the future of TBS holds for us!
-David Michaud At the end of February amidst a treacherous winter storm the Iota Lambda chapter of Tau Beta Sigma met to fulfill one purpose. To eat breakfast for dinner. While this may not seem like a complicated feat, the amount of coordination required to have such a meal was colossal. This dinner served as a fun hangout for everyone and a nice break from school! Everyone contributed by either cooking or dancing making for a great group activity to bring the sisters closer together outside of the recent service projects and fund raisers we had done. Seeing as there was no food left after the dinner it was a huge success and remains a great opportunity for bonding and social activities for us and possibly with our brothers in KKPsi. Most importantly everyone had fun and it will be the first of many sisterhood events yet to come!
-Mark Tierney Last Sunday, February 15, we had our annual Scouting for Music event. For this event we host local Girl Scout troops and help them earn their music badges. We had stations that included decorating tambourines, learning about the different groups of instruments, a conducting workshop, and even a group flag routine! The Girl Scouts also learned a little about what we do as Marching Tar Heels, and got to try a few cheers as we demonstrated the school songs. We had a great time, and hope the girls did too!
Hanne Schrickx Last week, we hosted our second-ever date auction, but with a twist! The Mister Sister Auction took place right before Valentine's Day, so that we could help out anyone who found themselves without a Valentine for the weekend - a service event in and of itself! All of the Sisters participated in some way, and all of the dates came with a pre-planned event. Our events ranged from a date with a dog to a healthy helping of banana pudding, and we found that our offers were great successes! We enjoyed the auction process, and we can't wait to see how this fundraiser works in the future.
